Easteregg oder ernst zu nehmender Hinweis? Eine Textur aus Battlefield 3 deutet ein Remake oder einen Nachfolger von Battlefield 2142 an.

Der Publisher Electronic Arts hab am 13. Dezember die Download-Erweiterung Back to Karkand für Battlefield 3 veröffentlicht. Der DLC lässt Veteranen der Serie in Erinnerung schwelgen, da er den Ego-Shooter unter anderem um vier runderneuerte Maps erweitert, die alle aus dem Vorgänger Battlefield 2 bekannt sind. Dazu gehört auch Wake Island, die ihren ersten Auftritt auch im ersten Teil der Serie, Battlefield 1942 , hatte.

Auf dieser Karte lassen sich einige Eastereggs entdecken. Der Miniatur-Dinosaurier, der sich unter einer Pflanze am Strand versteckt, ist bereits bekannt. Allerdings ist das noch nicht alles: Einem aufmerksamen Spieler ist aufgefallen, dass sich eine unscheinbare Container-Textur von den anderen unterscheidet. Die zeigt nämlich die Zahlen 2143 (siehe Bild). Dabei könnte es sich um den Hinweis auf einen direkten Nachfolger oder ein Remake des Serienteils Battlefield 2142 handeln. Der Klassiker Battlefield 1942 hat von den DICE-Entwicklern immerhin ebenfalls einen Neuanstrich spendiert bekommen, der unter dem Namen Battlefield 1943 für Xbox 360 und PlayStation 3 veröffentlicht wurde.

Alternativ haben sich die Mitarbeiter von DICE einfach nur einen Scherz erlaubt. Aber das wäre langweilig; auch wenn Battlefield 2142 nicht den gleichen Kultstatus hat wie einige der Vorgänger und Nachfolger überzeugte der Serienteil durch viele neue Ideen. Grund genug für einen Nachfolger?
