Das britische Unternehmen NME hat ein neues System entwickelt, welches BlueRay-Discs und HD-DVDs die Stirn bieten soll. Seit November sind bereits die ersten Player des neuen Standards auf dem Markt. Die Rede ist von HD-VM-Disks. Hierbei wird nicht auf neue Technik wie etwa bei der BR-Disks ( blauer Laser ) gesetzt, sondern auf eine altbewährte Technik. So beruht dieses System weiterhin auf einem roten Laser, wie auch schon bei CD und DVD. Derzeit erreichen die HD-VMDs eine Kapazität von 20 GB. Später sollen noch Systeme mit 40 GB und 100 GB folgen.
