Im Laufe der nächsten Wochen soll jeder Facebook-Nutzer eine eigene @facebook.com-Email-Adresse beim sozialen Netzwerk bekommen – ob er will oder nicht.

Wie Facebook am Wochenende in einer offiziellen Meldung mitteilte, beginnt das soziale Netzwerk in den nächsten Wochen mit der automatischen Zuweisung von hauseigenen Email-Adressen für seine Nutzer. Jeder registrierte User bekommt dabei eine Adresse mit seinem Benutzernamen und der facebook.com-Endung. Das Feature steht zwar bereits seit zwei Jahren auf freiwilliger Basis zur Verfügung, wird im April nun jedoch zur Pflicht.

Die Ziele, die der Konzern damit verfolgt scheinen offensichtlich. Mit eigenen Email-Adressen beim sozialen Netzwerk läuft noch mehr Kommunikation über die Facebook-Server und die Plattform könnte sich stärker als Kommunikations-Hub etablieren. Dem Social-Netzwork-Profil wird dabei eine Mail-Schnittstelle hinzugefügt, über die Emails nach „draussen“ verschickt und Nachrichten von fremden Email-Providern empfangen werden können. Diese werden dann jedoch in einem gesonderten Ordner, von den Facebook-Freunden getrennt, angezeigt.

Laut der deutschen Facebook-PR-Agentur werden die Facebook-Adressen jedem Nutzer zugeteilt, ganz egal, ob er von dem Service Gebrauch machen will oder nicht. Das größte Problem dürften dabei die Nutzer-Namen darstellen. Bei 850 Millionen Facebook-Mitgliedern weltweit, werden zahlreiche User bei ihren Adressen wohl Abstriche machen müssen, da es sonst zu Dopplungen kommen könnte. Facebook will die Gelegenheit nutzen und seine Benutzernamen vereinheitlichen. Welche Änderungen damit genau auf die Mitglieder zukommen, ist allerdings noch unklar.
