Mit einem neuen Patent sichert sich der japanische Konzern Sony eine Möglichkeit, gebrauchte Spiele beim Einlegen in eine Konsole zu erkennen und bei Bedarf zu sperren.

Viele Spieler fürchten nun einen Bann der günstigen Gebrauchtware spätenstens mit der Einführung der neuen PlayStation 4. Auch viele Börsen-Analysten scheinen daran zu glauben: Die Aktien der Spielekette Gamestop, die massiv auf den An- und Verkauf von gebrauchten Games setzt, verloren nach Bekanntwerden des Patentantrags rund 7 Prozent ihres Wertes.

"Der Hauptzweck der Erfindung ist es, eine Technik bereitzustellen, mit der der Zugriff auf digitale Inhalte auf einem Speichermedium eingeschränkt werden kann", schreibt Sony in seinem Patentantrag (PDF). Die Idee dahinter: Über den Kurzstreckenfunk NFC soll die Spieledisc mit der Konsole darüber verhandeln, ob der Spieler das Game tatsächlich starten darf. Hier sieht Sony auch den großen Vorteil zu einer DRM-Lösung: Mit dem neuen Patent sichert sich der Konzern eine Technik, die auch ohne bestehende Online-Verbindung funktionieren könnte.
